Blog Testify about the Expanding Housing Affordability proposal!

June 3, 2022

Denver's City Council will vote on the Expanding Housing Affordability proposal on June 6.

The Good

The policy will create dedicated funding for housing affordability, work towards less segregated neighborhoods, and streamline the process for permitting for homebuilders making more affordable units. It is expected to produce hundreds of Affordable homes.

The Not-Good-Enough

Denver needs 50,000 affordable homes. This proposal can't meet the needs of Denver.

The Way Forward

EHA works towards not leaving people behind as we build more housing. Denver's office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency ensured that new multi-home buildings have to be energy-efficient.

All of the pieces are in place for Denver to transform into an accessible and functional city, except for one: Our leaders need to make housing legal all across Denver.

What To Do

This is the best opportunity to remind our politicians that more housing is popular. That Denver voters will unambiguously reward politicians working towards a better city. That so many ills our city is facing stem from unaffordable housing.

You know that more housing is the right thing.

If you can, plan to testify before City Council on June 6 that you support EHA, and that the time is now to make more housing legal in all of Denver. This is your chance to tell your story about why more abundant housing matters from your perspective.

How To Testify

You will need to sign up to speak on the topic, AND sign up for the city council zoom link.

Starting at 4:30 PM on Monday, June 6th, you can click the "Sign Up To Speak" button. That website also has the guidelines and rules for public comment.

The bill is 22-0424 - An Ordinance To Amend The Denver Zoning Code.

This is a required public hearing. If you sign up, you will get a chance to speak!
